Dr. Brad Tiner promotes integrity in dentistry, so he encourages preventing problems rather than just fixing them afterwards.
That’s why he offers such a comprehensive selection of teeth cleanings and preventive dentistry. Our patients deserve nothing less!
Professional Cleanings
Why are dental hygiene appointments so important? At each session you will:
- Get the latest facts on oral disease as it relates to your smile
- Have stubborn tartar removed and stain polished away
- Receive therapeutic gum treatment to fight periodontitis
- Learn what adjustments you should make in your oral care routine
We promote fluoride use because of the irreplaceable role it plays in strengthening enamel against cavities. It’s especially critical for the developing teeth of kids!
Oral Appliances During Teeth Cleanings
Have you been diagnosed with sleep apnea? We can often help you get a custom oral appliance made as ordered by your prescribing doctor. They’re great for people who can’t or won’t wear a CPAP.
We recommend a night guard or NTI device if you grind your teeth at night. Athletic guards similarly are essential if you participate in physical activity. These guards will help you to protect the valuable restorations you have made in our office such as veneers and CEREC same-day dental crowns.
Find Problems Before They Start
To detect dental problems before they get out of control, we use methods such as digital x-ray technology and comprehensive examinations. These routine procedures help us catch issues before you even feel them, saving you pain, dental extractions, and money down the road.
Laser Cavity Detection
Raising the bar even further, we incorporate laser cavity detection in our preventive dental services. Laser dentistry and cavity detection pinpoints demineralizing tooth enamel within the microscopic grooves and pits of the back teeth long before cavities are visible on x-rays or can be felt using tactile methods.
Laser Gum Therapy
For our patients who have issues with gingivitis or gum disease, our hygienists are certified to perform the latest treatment available. A soft tissue laser is used below the gumline to kill any bacteria and disinfect the tooth pocket. This minimally invasive, safe procedure results in significantly quicker healing and with little discomfort.
Teeth cleanings and preventive care are given high priority here at Dentistry By Design. See for yourself how this is the case. Call us today to learn more about how we can help you preserve your smile!
Dental X-Rays
Dental x-rays are an essential element in the dental care that we provide at Dentistry By Design. X-rays allow us to diagnose potential issues before they become costly problems. Since bones and teeth are thick, we can use a dental x-ray to scan through the tissue and identify what is causing you pain.
What Can We Find With An X-Ray?
We can use x-rays to explore several areas and conditions around your mouth, such as:
- Cavities
- Tooth roots
- Bony areas around the tooth
- Periodontal disease
- Developing conditions
- The general health of your teeth, gums, jaw, and other areas
Types Of X-Rays
There are various types of x-rays that we use to show the different areas of your mouth, including:
Bite-Wing X-Rays
We use bite-wing x-rays to explore the tops of your molars or back teeth. We take an x-ray of each side of your mouth. You bite down on a device that holds your teeth in place while we take the x-ray.
Periapical X-Rays
Instead of taking an image of your entire mouth, a periapical x-ray focuses on one or two teeth. It shows the whole tooth from the root all the way to the top. It gives us a clearer image of the condition of your tooth so that we can make a correct diagnosis and assign the right treatment.
Extraoral Radiographs
A panoramic x-ray gives us a ‘big picture’ view of the jaw, skull, and all of the teeth. They allow us to track the overall growth and development, and also assess impacted teeth, bones, and the relationship between your jaw and your teeth.
3D Cone Beam Images
We can examine these digital images immediately, and we can also view them in higher magnification and different angles. Because contrast and density are so much better, it’s very easy for Dr. Tiner to diagnose oral health issues such as gum disease, cavities, and root canal infections.
Are Dental X-Rays Safe?
Although x-ray machines can be quite intimidating, they are safe and expose you to tiny amounts of radiation. Modern x-rays eliminate radiation and allow us to focus the x-ray beam directly on the area of your mouth that we need to evaluate. They produce amazing results without harming your mouth or body in any way.
High-speed and digital imaging allows us to reduce or eliminate radiation while capturing the image. When you undergo an x-ray, we place an apron over your body from your neck to your knees. You are fully protected from the x-ray. If you ever have any questions about the safety of x-rays, feel free to ask us. We want you to feel comfortable.
