What are All-on-4 Dental Implants?
All-on-4 dental implants, also known as full mouth implants, use four implants per arch to replace your teeth. The dental implants are placed strategically in the mouth to anchor a natural-looking denture. Once the implants firmly secure the denture, they function like your natural teeth.
Although all-on-4 dental implants are called full mouth implants, it doesn’t mean they only replace your teeth when you lose all your teeth in your mouth. They are ideal for replacing teeth in a full arch on either side of your jaws.
How It Works
Replacing your teeth with dental implants may seem complicated, but it’s easy in the hands of Dr. Tiner. The process starts with an evaluation of your oral health. The objective is to ensure you are free of cavities and gum disease.
If you have a clean bill of health, the dentist surgically places four implants in your upper jaw. You may need the same number of implants to replace teeth in the lower jaw. The implants are evenly spaced to ensure optimal stability and durability. Typically, two implants are inserted near the front of the mouth, and two are placed at the back.
After implant surgery, we give the implants about 3-6 months to heal. The implants fuse with the jawbone during healing to gain stability, just like your natural tooth root. Next, we install abutments on the implants and take impressions of your mouth to custom-make your dentures. After a few weeks of waiting, your natural-looking dentures will be ready, and Dr. Tiner will place them over the implants.
While the dental implant procedure seems time-consuming, it’s worth the wait. Nonetheless, it’s good to know what goes into the process to set realistic expectations from the word go. The start-to-finish process of dental implants takes 4-8 months, but it may be longer if you have additional procedures like dental grafting.
